The famous channel known as MTV got its start in this year. It quickly rose to popularity due to its innovative concept of broadcasting music videos and for it's engaging Video Jockeys who hosted the shows.

1980 - Vigdís Finnbogadóttir becomes President in Iceland

In an historical moment, the Icelandic politician became the fourth president of Iceland and first democratically elected female head of state in the world. Her remarkable 16-year tenure also cemented her as the longest-serving female leader globally.
